Playing Music

Music and other sound recordings may be played in class.

A provision of Section 28 in the Copyright Act 1968 deems performance and communication of musical works in the course of educational instruction not to be in public. The audience is limited to persons participating in the class.

Making audio recordings and sound recordings for a college event is covered under the Tertiary Music Copyright Agreement

Sheet Music

You can copy and communicate up to 10% of sheet music.

You can copy and communicate more if the work:

  • has never been published or published separately;
  • is out of print;
  • is not commercially available;
  • is a published edition.

In addition, Tabor College is party to the CCLI Church Copyright Licence, which permits churches to project or print out words and music to songs used in congregational singing. It also permits creation of custom musical arrangements where no published version exists.
